While the campaigns in some specific communities were successful, there are places in the world where the industry is still being fought, and even worse: where the industry is allowed to grow. That is the case of Maine State in the US. Protect Maines’ Fishing Heritage Foundation aims to end that. They have been passing ordinances around the state of Maine for over a year now. Two towns have banned finfish aquaculture completely and 8 more are working on ordinances in their communities. They are going to work with those communities so that they end up banning open-net salmon farming on a local level.
