Campaign in New York by Chilean NGO´s
Chile | Protected areas without salmon farms
On October the 17th a powerful video lit up Times Square in New York exposing the damaging effects of salmon farming to American consumers and highlighting that 420 salmon farms operate within protected parks and reserves in Chilean Patagonia.
Salmon farms in Chile harm protected areas by polluting the water with organic waste, chemicals, and an excessive use of antibiotics, which can affect marine life and biodiversity. They also spread diseases and parasites that threaten wild fish populations, while disrupting habitats and damaging ecosystems meant to be preserved.
The campaign was launched on the Latin American Day of Protected Areas by a group of Chilean organizations, including Defendamos Chiloé, a member of The GSFR.
